The aim of the initiative is to transform current planning culture and Baukultur to make sustainable building the new normal. Instead of signing another climate manifesto, architects and planners commit themselves to promoting the most important sustainability issues of the Declaration of Sustainability in their discussions with clients.

Network Meeting EXPO REAL 2024
On 8 October 2024 at 3:30 pm, we cordially invite you to the network meeting at EXPO REAL at the DGNB stand (C2.420) together with the NAX Architecture Export Network and the Phase Sustainability Initiative. We look forward to welcoming addresses from Dr. Christine Lemaitre (DGNB), Evelin Lux (BAK) and Dr. Philip Steden (BAK).

Annual Meeting Phase Sustainability Review
On the 10th of June 2024, the annual assembly of the Phase Sustainability Initiative took place at the Baukunstarchiv NRW. In their presentations, the speakers talked about important sustainability topics by showcasing a variety of projects. What corresponds to the idea of the initiative, to spread the knowledge on sustainable building.

Annual Meeting Phase Sustainability

On 10th June 2024, the annual meeting of the Phase Sustainability initiative will take place at the Baukunstarchiv NRW in Dortmund. The focus of the event will be on the concentrated transfer of knowledge by top experts from the field of sustainable building as well as honest dialogue at eye level.

Phase Sustainability initiative grows: structural planning
The Phase Sustainability initiative launched by the DGNB and BAK was expanded at the annual meeting on 25 May 2022: in future, structural planners will also be invited to make sustainability the new normal in planning practice. The BDB is now an official supporter of the initiative alongside the BDA and the bdia.

Declaration of Sustainability - Interior Design launched in Berlin
The "Declaration of Sustainability Interior Design" was presented on 13 July 2021. Representatives of the DGNB, BAK and bdia met at the daz - Deutsches Architektur Zentrum in Berlin to present the joint work. The first interior designers spontaneously signed the declaration and are now part of the " Phase Sustainability Initiative".

Phase Sustainability in Hesse

On 9 September the roadshow took place in Wiesbaden to introduce the idea of the initiative to the architects in Hesse. Among the participants were BAK President Barbara Ettinger-Brinckmann, Holger Zimmer Chamber of Architects and Urban Planners of Hesse, Christine Lemaitre DGNB, Stefan Rappold Behnisch Architekten and Thomas Busse KSP Jürgen Engel Architekten.

First annual event summary

More self-criticism than self-praise, unembellished honesty instead of glossy renderings and a little more questions than answers - that's how one could sum up the first network meeting. The focus was on the exchange of experience among planners. In addition to valuable insights, everyone agreed that the initiative was entering its second round.

Start of the roadshow in Karlsruhe

We need a paradigm shift now: no more statements but real action!

Every building can and should actively contribute to the positive design and sustainable construction of the environment we build around ourselves. A crucial part of this is holistic planning, allowing relevant objectives to be discussed and determined early in the process. This shared understanding is a fundamental prerequisite for implementing sustainable projects.

By becoming involved in this initiative, architects and planners have a new way to demonstrate solidarity. Not only can this promote a greater understanding of how to bring about change and contribute to environmental protection by working together, it also underscores how we must and want to actively achieve this in every project we implement.
